Festival di Sanremo 2024: day three
It's a long way to the final night... which is NOT tonight.
08:45 PM – Here we go again, third Sanremo night begins! I've just finished arguing with one of my 638925 cousins (someone please remind me to write a post about scaricabarile ASAP, thank you…), so I resolved to never have anything to do with them ever again, better focus on Nasadeus1 & co.
08:49 PM – Amadeus reminds us that tonight only the 15 singers who didn't perform yesterday will sing… he's making things more complicated than they should be, as per usual.
«I want to win, I want to go to Eurovision, it's held in Sweden and I want to annoy my ex-husband2.»
— Loredana Bertè
08:53 PM – my favourite, Loredana Bertè, introduces Il Tre, who sings Fragili: his mum in the audience sings along her son’s song about human fragility, “we’re fragile like the snow” (go tell that to an avalanche, though)… aww.
09:01 PM – Alfa introduces Maninni, singing Spettacolare: he wants a hug, he even sings that, someone please hug him.
09:08 PM – Fred de Palma introduces Bnkr44, singing Governo punk, jumping left right and centre as per usual.
09:20 PM – The choir of Fondazione Arena di Verona performs Va’ pensiero, from Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco. My mum sings along from our living room in Eboli, too. On 7th June in Verona there'll be a huuuuuuge concert to celebrate Italian Opera being inscribed on the UNESCO representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
09:27 PM – Clara introduces Santi Francesi, who sing L’amore in bocca: a song about unresolved moments of our lives…
09:34 PM – the third co-presenter of this year's Sanremo is comedian Teresa Mannino, hailing all the way from Sicily with her über-open vowels (her name isn't pronounced like any other “Teresa” but “taah-RAAH-sah”…), who doesn't want to come down the stairway claiming they're too slippery, blaming Amadeus for that… she eventually does, but only with the help of the orchestra playing *her song*… “All the journalists are here, if anything happens in the world tonight, we'll never know!”, hahaha, so funny… not. My mum can't stand her because she laughs at her own jokes, while she's still telling them… 😑
09:50 PM – Il Volo introduce Mr.Rain, singing Due altalene, a song about the importance of all human relationships, of any kind, the importance of not going alone through life.
09:55 PM – Amadeus and Massimo Giletti (another TV presenter, he used to be a journalist) chat about RAI, the Italian national broadcasting company, on its 70th anniversary… 😴
09:59 PM – Eros Ramazzotti (guest) sings his hit Terra promessa, which won Sanremo in 1984. Forty years ago. I remember that. I’m feeling decrepit now.
Eros Ramazzotti also calls for a CEASEFIRE and peace. Bless him.
10:07 PM – Fiorello jokes about the BALLO DEL QUA QUA incident from last night... 🕺🐤🐤🐤
10:12 PM – Gazzelle introduces Rose Villain, singing Click boom!, a song about falling in love and watching it explode (bringing along also diffidence, fear, self-annihilation…), potentially hurting us…
10:18 PM – Paolo Jannacci and Stefano Massini (guests) perform L’uomo nel lampo, a song about workplace fatalities.
10:26 PM – Paola & Chiara sing their song from last year's Sanremo: Furore.
22.42 – Actress Sabrina Ferilli (guest) was one of the co-presenters a couple of years ago, tonight she's here to promote her new TV series…
22.46 – Dargen D’Amico introduces Alessandra Amoroso, singing Fino a qui. I'm sorry, I'm sure she's a really nice person when you meet her, but I find her songs and fer singing uper-boring. 🤷🏻♀️
22.54 – the sofa guys, again… yes, they're among the sponsors of Sanremo, but why must they be so intrusive in the show?
11:02 PM – surprise! C'era un ragazzo… Gianni Morandi's way to call for a CEASEFIRE. Stop, coi Beatles stop! Stop, coi Rolling Stones!
11:07 PM – BigMama introduces Ricchi e Poveri singing Ma non tutta la vita — a song that basically says DUM LOQUIMUR FUGERIT INVIDA AETAS: CARPE DIEM, QUAM MINIMUM CREDULA POSTERO!3
11:15 PM – Here comes Russell Crowe, will he dance BALLO DEL QUA QUA, too? No, he performs Let the light shine with his band, feat Marcia Hines. Didn't know he could sing this well, bravo ciccio!
[toothbrush & pajamas break…]
11:35 PM – Bresh, whoever he is, sings Guasto d’amore from the stage of a Costa cruise ship…
11:41 PM – Irama introduces Angelina Mango, singing La noia — which is a cumbia, in case you hadn’t noticed. And is also set to win Sanremo, according to many…
11:49 PM – The Kolors introduce Diodato, singing Ti muovi. And he starts singing while sitting on the steps again, so it's a -5 points penalty for my Fantasanremo team, again...
00:01 AM – Teresa Mannino’s standup monologue begins with the difference between us humans and ants: the latter have been longer than us on this planet, but we're the ones destroying it…
00:09 AM – Mahmood introduces Ghali, singing Casa mia, which is one of my favourite songs of this Sanremo. The chief of the Jewish community in Milan calls for censorship over this song, claiming “it’s blatantly anti-Israel propaganda!!1” — but this song not only doesn't even mention Israel (merely wonders if it's right to target and destroy hospitals… guilty conscience, anyone?), but it also says there is no difference (there actually shouldn't be!) between our homes/lives/countries, there are no boundaries when you look at the Earth from the sky:
«Che differenza c’è? Non c’è! Ma qual è casa mia? Ma qual è casa tua? Ma qual è casa mia? Dal cielo è uguale, giuro.»
00:14 AM – Teresa Mannino gives out flowers to the audience…
00:17 AM – Emma introduces Negramaro, singing Ricominciamo tutto — “let's start over with PEACE.”
00:25 AM – actor Edoardo Leo launches into a humourless monologue about the importance of humour… MARCO MENGONI TI PREGO RITORNA!
00:40 AM – Annalisa introduces Fiorella Mannoia, singing Mariposa, a song about women's emancipation, probably trying to make amends for decades of “siamo così, dolcemente complicate…”
00:53 AM – Renga&Nek introduce Sangiovanni, singing Finiscimi, which is precisely what I'm thinking right now, since this night seems endless…
01:01 AM – Geolier introduces La Sad, singing Autodistruttivo: the performance includes bag-snatching Giulia Salemi, who was in the audience, so it's worth +20 Fantasanremo points. Unfortunately I don't have La Sad in my team… So sad.
01:08 AM – Gianni Morandi sings Apri tutte le porte, his song from Sanremo 2022, written by Jovanotti. Don't get me started on Jovanotti, please…
01:16 AM – while Amadeus launches a video of the highlights of tonight’s 15 songs, and my brain begin to show first signs of structural failure.
01:24 AM – more jestering from Teresa Mannino…
01:35 AM – at last, here's tonight's top 5 songs, according to votes from radio stations and people at home:
Two more nights to go… we can do it, people! Goodnight!
Björn Borg, Swedish former World #1 tennis player.
See? Latin is useful even when writing about Festival di Sanremo…
Daje! (even I fell asleep in the middle last night 😂)
This is insanity! 1.35am???? Nuts. Anyway, another way we Sicilians say "Teresa" is "Tresina". It was a nickname my dad gave me when I was little.
